Rhodesian Ridgeback (RR)

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large dog belonging to the Hound Group. Its history begins in Zambia\/Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia), where the breed was developed for its characteristic work. It currently ranks #43 in AKC registration popularity. Adults typically stand 24–27 inches (61–68.6 cm) at the shoulder and weigh 70–85 pounds (31.8–38.6 kg), with males at the upper end of those ranges.

Published breed data puts a typical Rhodesian Ridgeback lifespan at 10–12 years. The main levers behind that number are body size (smaller dogs usually outlive bigger ones), genetics, and how consistently a dog stays lean, exercised and current on preventive veterinary care.
