Can dogs eat eggs?

Yes — in moderation. Cooked eggs are a safe and excellent dog food — complete protein, riboflavin, selenium, fatty acids — and vets often recommend them for dull coats. Serve plain scrambled or boiled, no butter, salt or onion. Raw eggs are the caution: Salmonella risk and avidin blocking biotin. An egg a few times a week suits most medium dogs.

Treats of any kind should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Introduce any new food slowly and watch for individual intolerances.

Small amounts are generally fine. Monitor for stomach upset over the next few hours and offer normal food and water.
