Can dogs eat cashews?

Only with precautions. Cashews are safe for dogs in small amounts, with two conditions: unsalted and unflavored, and only a few at a time. Their fat and calorie density make regular handfuls a fast track to weight gain and pancreatitis. Cashew butter without xylitol is an easier format. Compare labels before sharing anything from the pantry.

Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, weight gain with overfeeding. Symptoms may appear within hours; when in doubt, call your vet.

Assess how much was eaten and whether seeds, pits, shells or seasoning were included. Small plain amounts usually need monitoring only; large or seasoned amounts warrant a call to your vet.
